A Cote Rotie twist on Petite Sirah, Sumo is a Rhone style blend of Petite Sirah co-fermented with Viognier, and blended with a small amount of Syrah. The 2015 vintage is a blend of 84% Petite Sirah, 13% Syrah, and 3% Viognier, all from Shake Ridge Vineyard. If the name doesn't give it away, Sumo is a huge wine, but exquisitely pure and balanced, with seemingly endless layers of complexity. Deep, dark blue and black fruit flavors, spice, pipe tobacco, and hints of minerality lead to a finish that goes on and on and on. The full and luxurious mouthfeel of this wine can be almost startling at first, but it's like a symphony in perfect harmony and balance.
